WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?
Scalp micropigmentation (or SMP) is a cosmetic procedure that creates the look of a buzz cut hairstyle on a scalp. It is also known as scalp pigmentation, scalp tattoo, hair tattoo, head tattoo and hair follicle simulation (HFS). This procedure is very effective for men with male pattern baldness, and those who wish to conceal scars from hair transplantation, surgeries or accidents. It is also useful to make thinning hair seem thicker. Alopecia sufferers can successfully use scalp micropigmentation to restore the illusion of hair follicles in their scalp. Unlike other tattoos, the procedure does not penetrate the skin as deeply, and it does not saturate the skin with the ink as much, enough to only create micro dots of ink in the scalp.GET STARTED
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET READY FOR THE TREATMENT?
Start moisturizing your scalp. If you are shaving, shave the night before so the skin is not irritated right before the procedure. No alcohol for 48 hours before the procedure. If you have more questions, please contact us.
HOW LONG DOES SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION TAKE?
Each session will take roughly 2-4 hours, depending on the area that has to be treated. The amount of sessions differ by client as everyone’s scalp reacts differently to the ink and heals differently. To find out how many sessions you may require, feel free to contact me.
HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
There will be redness for up to 48 hours after the treatment, depending on your skin type. The initial color will appear darker than the “cured”, healed result, which can take up to 3-4 weeks.
MY JOB REQUIRES PHYSICAL LABOUR; WILL SWEATING INTERFERE WITH THE HEALING?
We recommend that you avoid sweating until at least 5 days then you can sweat lightly, heavy sweating by day 10. Keep the treated area clean and dry.
After care guidelines
Scalp aftercare is just as important as the procedure itself. Proper care after the procedure is crucial to ensure the result looks sharp for years to come.
WHAT CAN I DO IN THE FIRST 3 DAYS FOLLOWING A TREATMENT?
You must avoid physical activity as much as possible. Minimize sweating, no water, or soap on the head, no weight lifting or, cardio activities. Moving around the house or office will not pose a risk to your procedure. Please keep the treated area dry and clean. Do not touch it or rub it. If a hat has to be worn, make sure it is clean washed and not too tight.
WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO GET WATER ON MY SCALP?
You can get your head wet by the third day after your session. At this point we recommend you only splash your head lightly with cool water. Do not put your head directly under the shower for about 5-7 days as some areas of your scalp may still be healing and the pressure of the shower head might be too strong. Follow the AFTER CARE instructions you will be given by your technician.
CAN I DO CARDIO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
You can resume your cardio routine a week after the procedure. To prolong the life of your micropigmentation we recommend that you use the minimum of SPF 30 or higher or wear a hat when in the sun for longer periods of time. Every skin is different and your technician may change the AFTER CARE instructions to suit your individual needs for the best healing.
WHEN CAN I SHAVE MY HEAD AGAIN AFTER TREATMENT?
You can shave by the fourth day with an electric shaver. You must be gentle while doing this in case the skin is still sensitive and irritated.
WHEN CAN I FIRST USE MOISTURIZER ON MY SCALP?
By day three after any treatment. However, if your skin is naturally oily, you do not need to apply any moisturizer. Please make sure that your hands are washed before applying a very thin layer of the moisturizer.
CAN I LIFT WEIGHTS AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
You can resume your weight lifting routine a week after the procedure, provided you don’t work up too much of a sweat.
